High Peak Marathon

Dallam Doofer and a Furness Flatlander
John Leech, Dave Barnes, Me and Steve Jeffs ( the Furness Flatlander his team name for other races)

High Peak Marathon is 42miles around the village of  Edale in the Hope valley

11:09pm was our start time we set out into the darkness and mist  for the first section. This being the best under foot which we completed  arriving at Moscar, for some much needed refreshments, to cheers of encouragement from the many fancy dressed student marshals.

Down the road to Cut Throat Bridge which leads us onto the punishing fell section comprising of almost 19 miles of peat bogs, we had a few minor detours a couple of heart stopping moments when you wake a sleeping Grouse and a few dips into the bogs I think we did just fine on the section I was least looking forward to.

Only 12 miles to go, sounds easy but if it was easy we wouldn't be doing it, and some nice York flags to run on, Heaven compared to the previous section, the miles tick along pretty well but we made a big Nav error missing a checkpoint and sending us way off route losing us valuable time, also adding unneeded miles to our all ready tired feet, the mist lifted and things started to look good, the paths became easier to spot we were soon at the last checkpoint  giving us a finish time of 12hours 55 mins and an overall place of 34th but with our age handicap taken ogg we jump to 19th and 11hours 12 mins.

I can honestly say I enjoyed my first High Peak Marathon and hope we do it all again next year.
