St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay

Coast to Coast done in 5 days, wow what a great experience,  loads of highs and a few lows but all worth it to see the North Sea splashing around your ankles.

One young man in Dallam running club says to me when I am climbing:

'How do you know you can't do it if you don't try?'

Well we tried and we did it!

HERE ARE SOME OF MY BEST BITS:

Running for five days with 3 great friends.
The unconditional support we received each and everyday from our wives.
The laughs we had along the way.
Ravenseat Farm, TV star of The Dales, and by 'eck she can cook a nice scone.
The Thunder and Lighting in Patterdale, ice cream.
Meeting two ladies from California who had come over just to walk the C2C and got lost 200 yard outside of Black Sail Hut.
The Four day runner struggling up Windy Gap saying OMG what have I done! ( though we think he made it)
The 11 Dallam runners that turned out to run along with us.
The 2 Howgill boys which also turned out to run with us.
The sight of the North Sea with 30 miles to go.
The overnight stay in Mrs and Mrs Jarvis penthouse in Richmond (will explain this more sometime)
All the lovely little villages we passed on the way.
The donations we pick up along the way, £65 from complete strangers amazing.
The donations that people have made so far again amazing, Thank you very much.

THE BAD BITS:

Mick having to pull out, with only 40 miles to go due to losing his toe nail, there was tears all around
Jarvo's blisters (enormous) and fat feet
The Maltkin B & B at Clag Bank (an experience, we slept in clothes, the ladies were not impressed!)
My ankles being swollen and sore 3 days after finishing, think SHREK
If anyone asks was it worth it? Then Yes it was,
If anyone asks for advice about doing it, I would say DRIVE!!!

High Peak Marathon

Dallam Doofer and a Furness Flatlander
John Leech, Dave Barnes, Me and Steve Jeffs ( the Furness Flatlander his team name for other races)

High Peak Marathon is 42miles around the village of  Edale in the Hope valley

11:09pm was our start time we set out into the darkness and mist  for the first section. This being the best under foot which we completed  arriving at Moscar, for some much needed refreshments, to cheers of encouragement from the many fancy dressed student marshals.

Down the road to Cut Throat Bridge which leads us onto the punishing fell section comprising of almost 19 miles of peat bogs, we had a few minor detours a couple of heart stopping moments when you wake a sleeping Grouse and a few dips into the bogs I think we did just fine on the section I was least looking forward to.

Only 12 miles to go, sounds easy but if it was easy we wouldn't be doing it, and some nice York flags to run on, Heaven compared to the previous section, the miles tick along pretty well but we made a big Nav error missing a checkpoint and sending us way off route losing us valuable time, also adding unneeded miles to our all ready tired feet, the mist lifted and things started to look good, the paths became easier to spot we were soon at the last checkpoint  giving us a finish time of 12hours 55 mins and an overall place of 34th but with our age handicap taken ogg we jump to 19th and 11hours 12 mins.

I can honestly say I enjoyed my first High Peak Marathon and hope we do it all again next year.
